About Cara

I'm an approved mustang trainer with the BLM/Mustang Heritage Foundation wild horse and burro program. I can help you learn how to work with feral horses. I also give beginner thru intermediate riding lessons in both Western and English disciplines.

I love anything to do with horses, and enjoy helping others pursue their equine passion. I founded a non-profit horse rescue because I am committed to all aspects of horse care, training and welfare.

I have been a 4H leader in the horse project, have taught my own kids and friends lessons.

I grew up on a large cattle ranch where we used horses extensively, and competed in 4H and open shows. I also rode and trained Hunter/Jumpers before I started working with mustangs. I've had years of lessons and clinics with a variety of other skilled trainers.

About the lesson

I like to speak with them about what they hope to achieve through our lessons, find out their experience level and whether they have their own tack and horse and if they will need me to travel to them or if they will travel to me for lessons. The first lesson I will evaluate their skill set and confidence level so I can customize a program and goals specific to their individual needs.

Mostly beginning level children.

Find a teacher that is like-minded that you click with and whose instruction makes sense to you.

In 2019 I founded my own non-profit horse rescue and found homes for 40+ mustangs, of which I gentled and trained several.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Budget. Goals. Time commitment. Availability. Experience in your discipline of riding. Facility. Lesson animals/tack availability. Will trainer travel to shows with student?
