About Leslie

Nestled in the heart of Greenville, are 5 acres and plenty of stalls for transporters or fulltime boarders. English riding lessons to beginners are provided within a controlled area for easy comfortable learning experiences. I have been instructing for many years, traveling to the residences of students, but mostly within the confines of my own ranch with one of my school masters provided.

I enjoy sharing the information that I have learned over the years from all of the professional riders that I have trained under. I find it rewarding to see a smile on the faces of students once they start make progress.

I began teaching my daughter and her friends.  This was my start.

I have trained under local professionals, and taken clinics by higher professionals such as:  Karen O'Connor, Denny Emerson,  Tony Hill, Capt. Mark Phillips, etc.  I have competed in Combined Training events through 'Training and Preliminary' levels.

First, I make sure that student is wearing proper riding attire and give instructions on fitting tack appropriately to horse.  Lessons start at the walk.  Lead line held by me if necessary.  Horse and rider stay in a small controlled area and work in a 20 meter circle around me.  Student is schooled on basic aids to transmit to horse.  Progression depends on how confortable the student is within his/her learning capabilities.

I have worked with all types of skill levels and different age groups.

Best advice to students looking to hire an instructor that I can give is to tell them what your expectations are, what you want to learn in a given amount of time, and see how the potential instructor answers.  Look for a good patient individual who understands your needs.

I am especially fond of the Rolex 3-Day eventing held in Kentucky each year every May.  Riders at all levels can learn so much just by watching the upper levels go.  Cross country is my favorite.  There are so many questions (different timber fences) that can be quite difficult.  Highly skilled riders and very brave athletic horses make it all look so easy.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Questions students should think through before talking to teachers?  Ask yourself if this is a discipline that you are serious about?  How far do you want to take this?  Are you willing to handle disappointment if horse does not seem to understand what you are asking.  Can you dust yourself off and get back on if you fall?  Are you willing to sacrifice your time away from your non-horsey friends and their activities?  Are you willing to accept the monetary expense of it all?
