About Rob

Hello future guitar rocker's! I've been playing guitar now for over 25 years. I've played in garage bands all the way to small club venues. I've recorded for a compilation CD and won 1st place in the New Orleans Guitar Center King Of The Blues contest in 2005. I've taught over 100 students covering basic chord and scale structures, guitar technique for several styles of music, and an overall passion for guitar. Many of my students have gone on to play in bands, one even graduating from a great music school! Looking forward to starting your musical journey today!

I've always had a passion for playing guitar, even before I ever picked one up. I taught myself how to play, and I always think about what I would have wanted to learn while I'm teaching students. Many of my students have continued playing and have joined bands and other musical projects. It is very gratifying to see someone take the love and passion for guitar, and continue to take it to new levels. I'm hoping to share the love of guitar and music to all that want to learn how to play!

I started teaching guitar about 15 years ago. It started with friends at first, but eventually I taught out of a couple music shops and studios. It took some time to learn how to teach, since it's totally different from just playing. The challenge is to make sure the students comprehends the lesson, and knows how to implement what is learned. I was self taught, so my philosophy is to teach students what I wish I could have learned in the beginning of my playing to accelerate my growth.

I've been playing guitar since my sophomore year in high school, which makes it about 25 years now. I started playing in garage bands, moved up to a cover band playing local venues, eventually leading to my original rock band which I played out in several venues and multiple states. I've recorded a track for a compilation album, and I also won 1st place in Guitar Center New Orleans - King of the Blues contest. My teaching accolades include teaching guitar in Mandeville, LA for 7 years, and teaching in Denham Springs, LA for about 2 years. I've taught around 100 students, and take pride in guiding new and experienced guitar players on their musical journey.

About the lesson

The first step is to determine what goals they are wanting to achieve from their guitar lessons. Next I evaluate where they are in their ability to play guitar. After determining what their guitar ability is, I either begin with basic chords and scales, and if they have experience playing, I jump into more advanced rhythm, technique, and scale work. From there I track student's weekly progress until we start acheiving their goals in learning to play guitar.

I've worked with students from all ages and all experience levels. My philosophy is it's never to late to learn, as long as you have the passion and discipline to want to. It doesn't matter if you never played before, or you have been playing for 25 years. You will never stop learning new things about guitar playing, that is the only way to constantly improve your playing and to never be complacent.

My advice is to see if they ever taught guitar before, playing guitar and teaching guitar are two different ball games. Tell your instructor what goals you are wanting to accomplish in learning how to play guitar. Also, see their commitment level in wanting to show others how to play. You don't want to waste any time or money on someone who isn't committed in teaching you how to play.

It was great fun to play and ride on a float in the Denham Springs Christmas parade a couple years ago. I would love to experience something like that again.
