About

Welcome to The Guitar Academy. I’ve been playing guitar for over 41 years and teaching music for more than 25 years. My background combines professional performance, live sound, studio and film audio engineering, music production, music theory and composition, and instrument craftsmanship, giving students a real-world perspective that goes far beyond traditional music lessons.

I attended school for music theory and composition, previously owned a recording studio, and worked professionally as both a live sound engineer and audio engineer in the film industry, contributing to more than 80 major motion picture productions. Alongside teaching, I’m also a certified luthier with 25 years of experience building, repairing, and restoring instruments.

Because of that background, students learn more than just scales and songs. I can help with live performance preparation, stage experience, professional tone development, understanding gear and amplification, recording techniques, songwriting, improvisation, and developing confidence as a musician in real-world situations.

My teaching style is personalized, relaxed, and goal-oriented. Some students want to casually learn songs they love, while others want to develop advanced technique, performance skills, recording knowledge, or music production experience. Lessons are tailored to the individual student rather than forcing everyone through the same rigid curriculum.

We offer guitar, bass, mandolin, drums, music production, and audio production lessons through in-person, online, and hybrid options. We also offer discounted guitar setups and instrument services for our students to help make sure their instruments play properly and comfortably, because a well-playing instrument makes learning easier and more enjoyable.

My goal is to help students build strong fundamentals, creativity, confidence, and a genuine lifelong connection with music.

Guitar lessons offered by are tailored to each student's needs and level. Lessons can also be held online. Lessons are also available in Texarkana. The first lesson is free to define learning goals and methodology.
