About John
I offer guitar, bass, and vocal lessons in addition to performance coaching and a songwriters workshop. I also have extensive experience in the recording industry, running my own project studio with five CDs currently published and distributed. My goal is to teach students not only the instrument, but the overall picture of how to pursue a career in the many venues and opporunities in the world of music.
Watching students achieve success in mastering technique and develop their own unique style.
Through recommendation by a fellow performer to teach in a local private school.
35 years as a guitarist/singer/songwriter in professional bands performing in club, concert, and theater venues as well as in church. 10 years of formal training in brass choir and vocal choruses. 5 years instruction in recording arts--digital recording in Pro Tools.

First I conduct a student evaluation to determine the student's aspirations and then chart a suitable program, whether it be learning to read formal staff music or to pursue a program of just learning how to read and execute chord charts of classic rock and popular songs.
A wide range: Students as young as 6 years old through teenage years. I've also worked with adult students. In addition I've taught group lessons for students of mixed ages and abilities.
The best advice I can give a student is that while it is really important to learn the fundamentals, use them as a tool to find your own voice and style.
Student recitals, 4 times a year with emphasis on combining two or more students during the holiday season. Also, recitals in which I play with the students.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Evaluate your goals. Are you aspiring to a career in music or do you simply want to play for the enjoyment of yourself, friends, and family. Also, consider that there are two avenues of guitar: acoustic and electric. Each has it's own idiosyncracies.
