About Sean

I have over 20 years of experience playing guitar and I have loved learning about the different styles and techniques of playing, including classical, jazz, blues, and rock.

I strongly believe that it is important to learn to play and appreciate many different styles of music. You might be surpised at what you'll learn to like!

The great thing about playing guitar is that anyone can take it as far as they wish. Playing can range from simple chords all the way to complex theory, rhythms, melodies and harmonies.

My job as a teacher is to guide each student toward his or her personal goals, and help them to develop any skills they wish to possess, while at the same time challenging them to learn unfamiliar and perhaps less appealing styles and techniques. Important aspects of being a musician include not only appreciation, but also being well-rounded in terms of knowledge and technical skill.

Learning to play and appreciate music has been incredibly important to me over the years, and I have my music teacher of 15 years to thank for passing on all his knowledge to me. I now have the opportunity to do the same for others, and being able to teach my students what I have learned is meaningful in so many ways.

After realizing that I actually have a talent and desire for teaching others, have made it more of a priority, and have been focusing on it since 2014.

I have over 20 years of experience playing guitar, including many styles such as classical, rock, blues, jazz and folk. I was fortunate to have a great teacher for 15 years who taught me many styles and techniques, as well as appreciation for multiple genres and music history.

About the lesson

For students with no experience, it is important to first inquire about interests, such as what music the student likes and what he or she wishes to learn.

For students with experience, finding individual strengths is important because one should always capitalize on personal strengths. Then we can decide what he or she needs work on, because it is also necessarry to improve upon weak points in the student's playing.

The next step is to learn more, so at this point I will suggest what I believe is important for that individual student, considering their interests and strenghts, but also challening them to learn things they may have never considered.

I have worked with kids and adults alike of all skill levels.

Look for a teacher that you are able to develop a bond with, and do not try to make it work with any particular teacher if some sort of relationship cannot be established. Having coached and taught for multiple years, I have come to see the importance of a solid student-teacher relationship

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about an overall direction or goal. I urge students to learn as much as possible, but initially it is important to challenge oneself and set realistic goals.

I charge $20 for 30 minute lessons and $30 for 1 hour lessons.

Depeding on student needs and wants, we can figure out exactly what the individual student will require in terms of frequency and length of lessons.
