About Brendan

Rather than teaching with traditional music theory and reading off sheet music on paper, I have a more "fun" and hands-on approach to teaching. If you've never played before, I'm not going to shove sheet music in front of you and bore you into quitting or losing interest. My biggest focus is finding out how you like to learn and making it as enjoyable as possible. I can give you exercises to use in your own time that will get you playing your favorite songs in no time! I'm great with all ages, all types of personalities and really focus on building a strong relationship with my clients. I want you coming into each lesson with confidence and leaving with even more. Easy to talk to and willing to take things as slow as you need.

I've been playing music and singing for roughly 13 years and have an associates degree in audio engineering from a Pro Tools / Avid-based school in Southern California. I'm big on song writing and music production. We can turn your songs into full band production, rewrite or add to your unfinished song. You name it and we can make it happen.

I've always had a leadership quality growing up in sports, jobs I worked at, bands I was in, during studio sessions, etc. I take pride in teaching others what I am passionate about and genuinely enjoy seeing others get better at what I teach them. It's the most rewarding feeling to me and I just figured, if I'm good at something, good with people and enjoy teaching, why not take it more serious, so here I am!

Pro Tools certifications and an associates degree in audio engineering's at Studio West in San Diego, CA. I graduated in 2016.

About the lesson

When we meet, I wanna know if you're a beginner who has never played or only played a little, intermediate and can kind of hold your own, or an "expert". Whatever level you consider yourself, I want to get to know you and take advantage of how you learn the best way. In my opinion, there isn't a one-way to teach EVERYONE and that is something I consider when taking on new clients. I promise you won't work with anyone easier once you take a few lessons with me. And most importantly, I'll make our lessons fun and enjoyable.

Although my resume of teaching doesn't run off the page, I've worked with a handful of students under the age of 10, teenagers and adults. Siblings, friends, friends of friends, other musicians in the local music scene, younger kids of the parents I know. I've always offered my services word of mouth, but this will give me way more of an opportunity to reach out to someone new that I wouldn't meet otherwise that I can truly help achieve what they want to accomplish in music.

Practice practice practice. No one takes a single lesson and turns into Jimmy Page over night, so I can't stress enough how important it is to pick up your instrument at least once a day. Even if you walk by it as you're leaving the house and just hold it for a moment. But, practicing what we go over in a lesson as much as you can at home before our next lesson only benefits you and the pace you want to be at moving forward.

Details

I charge $60 per hour and $45 per half-hour.
I will allow up to 3 hours per session.

anything more than that, especially if you're a beginner is over-doing it in my opinion and I would focus on teaching only a few things you can take home and practice with until our next lesson. PRACTICE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF INBETWEEN LESSONS****

I would not recommend only using the time during our lessons to play and practice for that would be a waste of your time and your money. No one gets good at playing any instruments or singing practicing only an hour or so a week so make sure you're committed to an instrument before spending all this money on lessons.
