About Dr Leiataua Jon

I am easy to work with, like to have fun, and I am passionate about music. Other than that, I like to see my students be successful and learn.

I have been playing guitar for over 20 years and have written, recorded, and produced my own album of music, an EP. I am skilled in songwriting and building off of a melody, be it on guitar or vocally.

I like working with people and music is a great way to connect with new folks who want to improve their playing.

(concealed information)

I taught for seven years and was in education for 18 years. I am trained as a teacher, although not in music education, and have been licensed to teach and be an administrator for awhile now. I love seeing things click for a student and I take great pride in seeing my student(s) express their passion for music in creative and new ways.

I have been playing guitar, writing music, and singing for 20 years. I was trained as a pianist for three years in my youth and I have played in a few bands. I sing and play professionally at events like weddings, parties, and funerals, and I am releasing an EP Album June 15, 2018.

About the lesson

I like to know what their needs are, first, and then get a sense of where they would like to be over a period of time. In that sense, I like to use a backward design process to structure the lessons to ensure that I am meeting their needs and that the student is hitting on their goals.

All types.

Go with the person that you feel most comfortable with. Price is important but getting the right fit with an instructor is even more crucial.

I enjoy reggae music and like to frequent the "Massive Mondays Reggae Night" in NE Mpls. each Monday evening or, when I can make it.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
None that I can really think of. I think it's important to be curious about things, when it comes to learning how to play an instrument or sing, but I can't think of any specific questions that students should ask. The most important thing is to have a positive attitude and make time to practice, make mistakes, and then correct them. There is no substitue for practicing and that can take a measure of discipline. You gotta stick with it to get the rewards! In that way, patience and persistence really pay off.
