Why trust me to teach you about music?

I believe that learning music is more than mere imitation and repetition. Musicians need to grow and develop in an organic and inquisitive way, reaching beyond simple mechanics.

The concepts and choices behind the music are powerful and helpful in learning how to play any instrument. What makes certain songs sound so good? How are they written in a way that is both logical and magical? What key are they in? What scale is the best choice for a solo?

Questions like these, and the answers behind them, are just one facet of my teaching philosophy and method. We’ll build a solid foundation with flexible, customizable lesson plans, and my 30 years of experience as a multi-instrumentalist will give your musicianship and creativity both the space and support it needs to grow.

I started teaching out of my parents' home as a kid and I've always been interested in sharing my knowledge.

About the lesson

I start students at the level they are at when they arrive at my doorstep. I take into consideration what they want to learn, or in the case of children – what their parents want them to learn.

Boys, girls and adults indcluding one blind student. I'm not really concerned about age as long as the student wants to learn.

If you really want to get great on guitar I strongly urge you to find other sources of inspiration besides me. You should be interested in buying books, studying music theory, games to improve you knowledge of guitar, etc. Taking one 30 minute lesosn from me weekly is not going to make you great. You will need to practice and develop a hunger for musical knowledge.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
You might start with thinking about what kind of guitar and style you want to play, but be aware that as you learn more about music you may switch styles.

Details

$30 per 30 minute lesson at my house = $120 per month.

If I'm making a house call I charge $1 per minute for drive time. Most of my students live within 5 minutes of my house. In this case their 30 minute lesson is $40 = $160 per month.
