About Lars
I am a college professor with 25 years of experience teaching professional guitarists and music theory. My specialty is the intersectionality between music theory, guitar and performance. I have trained both jazz- as well as classical guitarists at the collegiate level for many years, but enjoy also working with beginning students. I consider a good beginning the most important step towards mastery of anything.
I am a kind and dedicated teacher, in the words of my former students and mentors. I put the needs of my students first and share in their ambitions; I do not impose my ambitions or values on other musicians. I teach with deep respect for the individual.
I had important teachers and mentors in my past. I want to be a part of the legacy that got me started.

• Thorough assessment of ability and goals -- your goals, not mine!
• After many decades in the music business and three graduate degrees, there is little I haven't seen and dealt with before.
• Although I am classically trained, I am not a snob and I am not limited to classical music only. I have worked with many jazz players and given them a great deal of skill and feedback that have made them grow leaps and bounds and made them stand out in the crowd.

Dr. Lars is not just one of the best teachers I’ve had but one of the best mentors. He’s excellent at what he does and always a pleasure to work with!
Very knowledgeable and pleasant to work with. He analyzes each person's ability and works in different ways fitting for every person.
Lars is an intelligent, thoughtful, and sensitive mentor. In my experience, his mode of operation has been to bring out the best of my own guitar playing - to work with and build up my strengths, and to help me identify and strengthen my weaknesses. What sets Lars apart is his ability to connect with his students in a professional, yet caring way. In our lessons, he makes great strides towards connecting my musical learning to our lives, making his teaching style much more personalized and relatable. If you are looking for a teacher who can really build your skills from the ground up - or someone who can thoughtfully critique and tweak an already advanced player, Lars Frandsen is the way to go!
Working with Frandsen Guitars was a great experience. The high quality teaching and musicianship was exceptional. I would give my highest recommendation for all levels of musicians. If you are looking to expand your musical knowledge and experience this is the right place.
Dr. Frandsen's profound expertise in guitar repertoire and styles is only matched by his deep devotion to the instrument and his students. A truly generous person, Dr. Frandsen does not hesitate to counsel with objectivity, pushing one's understanding of the guitar ever further. Dr. Frandsen is a truly wonderful pedagogue.
I studied with Lars Frandsen at Brooklyn College when I was training to become a high school music teacher. He was the greatest! (Still is). Of course he can teach you technique. But beyond that you will learn how to play guitar musically! By that I mean dynamics, phrasing, gesture - all the things that turn notes on a page into music. I play many styles of guitar in addition to classical, and what I learned from Lars informs everything I play. Studying with him made me a better guitarist and a better musician.
I had studied guitar under Lars Frandsen for 3 years during my time in Brooklyn College's classical-based conservatory. Most of classes proved to be quite stressful, and the culture surrounding classical music can be very competitive. However, amidst all this stress, Doctor Frandsen had created a fun and nurturing environment within our guitar ensemble as well as our private lessons. Lessons that have improved the foundation of my playing as well as my musicianship, and I will always carry them with me.
A sweet guy with a great wealth of knowledge on the guitar, and music as a whole. This is not limited to classical music either, as you will quickly learn he is a very well-rounded and experienced musician whose passion is to support his pupils whom he considers his friends first and foremost.
He is still a friend of mine today and I highly recommend studying with Lars despite your background on the guitar as you will undoubtedly come out with a better understanding and appreciation for the instrument along with a new friend.Lars Frandsen opened a whole new world for me in Classical Guitar with his method and style of teaching. He is outstandingly knowledgable, talented and uses all of this to inspire his student in the best way. The motivation that I felt after every lesson is unmatched. I would recommemd Lars Frandsen as a guitar teacher to anyone and everyone !
Lars is the rarest of all teachers: a world class player with an encyclopedic knowledge of music and the teaching chops and experience to help any student with a desire to work hard reach their potential.
I studied with Lars for 5 years and he was a great revelation both as a teacher and as a person. Thanks to his intuition I was able to fill in my knowledge gaps and gain more courage.
I was fascinated by his extreme preparation as a music teacher. I'll be grateful to him for life because there is nothing as wonderful as someone who shares your vision and can lead you on the right path.Provides excellent one on one lessons, Frandsen is always trying to challenge you and provides tips, and a great guitar ensemble conductor.
His knowledge, his warmth and kindness as teacher, and what seems to be an endless toolbox of resources to help you play at your best.

Right now, I am re-building my private guitar studio. I am still making my living from my two college jobs, so I can price my private lessons at the resonable rate of $50 per 45 minutes. This price is likely to increase in the future. I want to make lessons available to a broad section of the population. My decision to work with a students is determined more by the interest of the student, rather than their financial means.
