About Jarad

I focus on theory as well as technique, performance, and philosophy. I play a variety of instruments and as such can more readily help students contextualize music in a variety of forms and genres.

I love helping people discover the joys of playing music, and I love playing music with people. Art in general, and music in particular are, in my opinion, some of the most important things about being alive.

I started picking up students when I was in high school, mostly friends of mine that wanted to learn guitar. Things grew naturally from there.

I have been teaching since 2006, operated my own store and lesson studio from 2015 to 2018, and played professionally for 18 years.

About the lesson

First I like to learn what a student knows, then I like to learn what a student wants to learn. From there I develop a customized lesson plan based on each student's specific wants and needs

I work with all kinds of students from young beginners 2 players that want to expand their theory knowledge to adult beginners that want to pick up a new instrument as a hobby or relearn one they used to play.

Finding a teacher that listens is important, and that generally will teach you what you want to learn rather than what they want to teach. It is also important to find someone with a high knowledge of body mechanics to prevent bad form which can lead to discomfort and even injury.

As I write this I'm in the midst of a two day stint playing along to beautiful visualizations in a planetarium, having been flown in and out of New York City to apply for the American Music abroad program just a couple days earlier.
