The arts benefit students in countless ways and I love being able to share this with my students. I love helping them to reach their personal goals and gain self-confidence during their training. It is such a rewarding feeling to see my students succeed!

Lyndsey Schaefer is both an award-winning teacher and actress! As a performer, she is a classically trained soprano. She has performed in countless musical theatre productions locally, regionally and on tour. Some of her favorite roles include Christine Daaé in Phantom, Lily in The Secret Garden, Mary Bailey in It's a Wonderful Life, Beth in Little Women, Laurey in Oklahoma, Johanna in Sweeney Todd and Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz for which she was awarded "Best Actress in a Musical” for New Jersey’s 2010-2011 professional theatre season. She also had the honor of being one of only four original cast members in Ruth Fost's Alice in Wonderland tour. Outside of theatre, Mrs. Schaefer is a hired soloist for concert and solo work. As a child, she had the honor of singing in Avery Fischer Hall in Lincoln Center. She is a hired studio musician and has recorded demos for new musicals and also singer/songwriters. She is also featured in a national commercial which is currently airing. As a teacher, Lyndsey has been teaching private voice lessons since 2003 which focus on classical technique through musical theatre and classical repertoire. She has been teaching music (vocal, general and orchestral) in Bernards Twsp since 2004 and received the award of "Teacher of the Year" in 2013! In Bernards Twsp, she also serves as musical director for the spring musical at Ridge High School. Favorite MD credits include Rent, The Secret Garden, Legally Blonde, Fiddler on the Roof and Bye Bye Birdie. She has also musically directed shows and taught master classes at various performing arts schools. At Cedar Hill School, she created the drama club where she directed, musically directed and choreographed countless shows!

About the lesson

I first like to talk to them about any short and long term goals that they have for themselves. Then, I typically assess their current level with exercises and a familiar song. After that, I discuss some of the things that I feel are priorities in helping them to reach their goals and come up with a plan of action. My lessons begin with exercises and then move to repertoire that will help them to meet the goals that we are working on and be able to have fun in the process!

I have worked with beginners through professionals aged 4 through adults! I also have experience teaching students with special needs (some of them really found music to be their strength).

I would definitely set up a trial lesson to see if you are a good fit for each other. You want to make that you are comfortable and also can communicate with each other well. I also think it is important for you to like the way your teacher sounds on your instrument of choice too.
