As my first guitar teacher Patiño introduced me to so many musical influences and techniques. We started with basic primary chord formations, scales and what notes are where on the neck. From there I learned root notes, 5th’s and octave notes, which led to moving chord shapes and finally full bar chords.

The teaching style was fun, informative and very hands on. As I learned the basics Patiño kept the lessons moving with so of my favorite songs and some of his as well.

Once I had a good understanding of the basic music theory behind the guitar we would pick up on different techniques hidden in each song I was learning. Artists like Cream, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and Jimi Hendrix were just a few of the many musicians I drew influence from.

Every lesson was a challenge but a well-formulated plan to learn guitar. His teaching style was personalized to fit my visual and hands on learning needs. It’s been 10 years and my love of music is still present as I write and perform my own original music with my current band Pretty Rotten. I am forever grateful for those crucial few years of lessons with Patiño.
