Music for Life! That is the theme of Jill's music classes. The goal is that everyone who learns to sing or play will expand their personal goals and talents and make music a part of their lives forever. Jill believes that each student comes with their own special ways of learning, so the lessons are created with the student's ability in mind; the pace of learning is based upon the strengths of each individual. Jill is patient and knowledgeable and she has been in the music business and music educational field her entire life. I love teaching music! Music is my life and I enjoy seeing students progress from no knowledge of their instrument/voice to seeing end results of students becoming music majors, music teachers and performers who make music a big part of their lives. This is the greatest reward, seeing the students making music a friend for life.

I started teaching my younger cousins at a young age. I formed a "cousin band" before age 16 and we traveled to various locations performing for fashion shows, restaurants, churches and other special events. I have always been a teacher, no matter what job I was doing at the time. I have been a band leader for many touring groups and I have taught many lessons throughout my career ranging from voice to band isntruments, guitar and strings as well as percussion and drums.

I have a Bachelor of Music Education and several master classes. I am a certified ORFF-SCHULWERK teacher and I hold a lifetime teaching certificate in Vocal and Instrumental music. I have strengths in church music, composing, performance, theory and playing by ear as well as reading music. I have taught music in public school, private school, church school and private lessons. I have served as Music Director in many churches as well as holding the position of Steinway Concert and Artist Director for the Dallas Metro area. I have experience in music stores, customer service and other sales related jobs. My entire life has been one of music making; my motto: "Music for Life!"

About the lesson

The first step of teaching is getting to know the student. Every person comes to me with different expectations about taking lessons. I spend the first lesson getting to know the student's personality and finding the best way the student will learn. Everyone has special skills and everyone has weaknesses in the learning process. Some folks are visual, others are auditory; some want to play by ear, others are only interested in learning to read music. Personally, I love teaching ALL students to read music because this opens up an entirely new language that can be helpful in learning other instruments. Once music reading is learned, it is an easy task to pick up another instrument. I rarely teach any two students the same way because I really try to reach into the soul of the student and find exciting ways to expand their minds through music learning.

I have worked with students as young as three (3) years old all the way through retired students in their 70's. I am comfortable teaching any level and any age. I love beginners and I enjoy advanced students who plan to make music their career. I have students who are professional musicians, teachers, church music directors, lawyers, accountants, pastors, dancers and others who are financial advisors, etc. I have worked with MANY "types" of students and I have also worked with many ethnicities, students from India, China, Phillipines, Dominican Republic, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and many others from around the U.S. I am able to teach most anyone to love music and to love sharing their gifts.

Find a teacher who is close by; it is difficult to have to rush to a lesson and with traffic patterns in Orlando, I would limit travel time to 20 minutes if possible. I teach in Winter Springs and East Orlando and I travel to Oviedo and to the Tuskawilla area. Rarely do I travel more than 20 minutes to give lessons in a home. Making the lesson time one that will not interfere with other activities is important because after beginning lessons, it is imperative that one keep his/her lesson time a priority, no tardiness due to the passing of 30 minutes is so little time to play for the teacher and to discover something new each lesson. I recommend asking many questions to be sure you are selecting JUST THE RIGHT FIT!

I LOVE the beach and I love performing music. Those are my two hobbies although I love physical training and socializing with my friends. I enjoy attending concerts and mostly, I love to perform my original songs, especially blues and Christian music. I perform many times throughout a given month and it would be difficult to choose just one venue. I share my gifts each week as Music Director/accompanist at my church and I often perform for weddings and funerals, special events and parties. I love music and MUSIC IS MY LIFE!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is the student's goal? Are you planning to become a professional musician or just play for enjoyment? Search your soul and think about how serious you will be about practice time. Practice DOES make perfect and without it, no one gets better. Take an inventory of yourself, how much time are you able to commit to practice? Are you wanting to perform? Perhaps you have questions about stage fright, Write down all your questions so you do not forget to ask the questions. I am open to answering any questions about my teaching or about an instrument. Sometimes the student has questions about buying an instrument or books. Be sure your instrument is suitable to your size. No question is a bad question!
