About Elijah

My service stands out because I not only offer guitar lessons but also offer songwriting and production lessons. Often times these can all be intertwined into one bigger music lesson. I bring years of experience, be it songwriting with platinum record producers or playing in acts that have toured nationally.

Music is one of the most amazing aspects of life and sharing it is a blessing. When I began learning music, I remember being so stimulated and excited by any new piece of information and facilitating that for other people is beautiful.

I began teaching when I moved to New York. I've had a love for music since I was a little kid and I chased the feeling of facilitating that love for other people. Everybody has a story to tell and I find that teaching guitar and songwriting can gift the tools to do so.

I've played the guitar since I was five years old and been a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, bass, upright bass, drums, keys, vocals, programmed production) for a decade. I've written songs for major label artists, performed nationally, and produced records in styles ranging from pop to jazz to punk. Whether it's playing onstage with Slash from Guns n Roses or doing session work at a world class studio like The Village, I've garnered experience working with professionals and aim to share the insights I've gained from them.

About the lesson

I gauge the student's goals and where they're currently at and then plan a path to fill in the blanks for them. The best way to learn is to focus on your passions and build out your skillset from there. Whether the student wants to shred blues licks or write pop songs or make trap beats, it's my job to provide clear guidance and make it fun along the way.

I've usually worked with beginners although I am open to working with students at any level. The most important thing a student can bring to the table is the dedication to practice and grow their passions. Although I can teach theory (scales, chord relationships, etc), I do not teach students to read music.

Make sure you can match your desired goals with the skillset of the teacher. There are many different types of players that specialize in different things. While they all could teach you the essentials, if you are looking to dive deeper into one style, it's best to make sure the teacher is well informed on that style.
