About John Mark

My teaching approach: I customize my approach to each individual students' needs, going as fast or as slow as the student is able. Furthermore, I can recommend several different guitar or flute methods or use the students choice.

Local lessons take place in the student's home. I can also do lessons over the internet if desired. Times and days for lessons to be arranged.

Guitar Techniques: Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Fingerstyle, Reading Music, and Music Theory.

Basic Native American Flute techniques and Nakai Flute Tablature and Music Theory.

In the first lesson we discuss the student's musical goals and experience, a brief introduction to parts of the Guitar or Native American Flute, music theory basics, and the first lesson would follow.

A typical lesson starts with a "check in" to see how the student has been doing in practice, then some warm-ups. We usually review skills from the last lesson then introduce new concepts/skills and practice that. Then we would work on performance songs that the student is interested in learning.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student include an enthusiasm for learning as well as a willingness to practice regularly.

I began teaching as a lifeguard, then graduated from Salem State College as a teacher.

I have a Master's Degree in education, 35 years of teaching, former Certified Music Teacher.

Pricing depends on how far I have to travel and how long the lesson is, but it's less than the local music store lessons. $25/half hour or $35-$45 for an hour lesson.
