About Jay
Guitar lessons focused on providing students with a well rounded understanding of music, and the instrument as a whole. Also offering music theory lessons focused on each student’s individual needs.
I enjoy sharing the joy of music and helping people to discover newfound confidence and acomplishment.
I’ve been playing professionally since I was 16 years old and I started teaching at 18 after being asked repeatedly if I taught.
I have 3 degrees in music. An Associate in music Ed from San Juan College in my hometown of Farmington NM. I also hold an Associate in contemporary guitar, and a Bachelors in contemporary performance from Musicians Institute in LA. Ive been playing for 25 years and preforming live for 20 years. Ive traveled and played with all kinds of groups and been in all kinds of playingand teaching siuations.

Understanding each student’s goals and inspirations is always my first step when working with new students. Before we begin I usually ask a few questions. If your an experienced player, I like to know things like how long you’ve been playing, and if you took lessons before? With all students beginners to advanced players I like to discuss favorite musicians/guitar players, favorite songs and so on.
I have worked with all skill levels from beginners to professional musicians looking to gain new skills. Ages ranging from 7 to late 60s.
Communication to me is the most important skill a teacher can have. I recommend chating a bit before committing if possible to make sure you can clearly communicate, and to ensure that you are being heard and understood.

Details
Standard rates are $30 for a 1/2 hour and $50 for a full hour. I do often offer promos and discounts feel free to ask.
