About Gil

My curriculum focuses on understanding the guitar's tonal structure and organization primarily through patterns; creating a more approachable landscape for the retention and utilization of music theory.

This differs from more traditional models of guitar instruction that would have students learn songs and then theory as a byproduct of the songs they have learned. While this can be an effective method of learning the guitar; I am of the belief that it can place the students' playing in a box where their future self expression becomes a derivative of other artists.

The goal is to provide students the tools and understanding to write their own music, improvise, build chords and learn their favorite songs!

When I was in high school I was in charge of going over new sheet music with the 2nd 3rd and 4th chair French Horns in my section. I got a rush as they improved and they were very receptive to my teaching style. I have equal amounts of patience and enthusiasm that make teaching a genuine pleasure for me. That excitement is something I get to exercise and share with every student I teach.

- I am a classically/jazz trained multi instrumentalist that attended SUNY Purchase for French Horn

-I have an audio engineering degree from The Institute of Audio Research

- I've been playing guitar for over 20 and teaching for 10

-work out a step by step process based on their playing ability and goals

Modestly novice to intermediate students ranging in age from 12-60

Make sure that they have YOUR growth and learning as their main priority, and are not merely in it to make a buck.

Every Tuesday I get the pleasure of being involved in an artist collective jam session. It id's truly the highlight of my week.
