About Dan B

I am all about practicality when it comes to learning an instrument! What I mean by that is this; While learning from method books can be very useful, to me they are not very practical. When its time to learn some scales, I am going to find a song from an artist you enjoy to listen to and teach you that way. Learning techniques in a practical form, such as a specific song will have much more of a chance of retaining in your brain rather than learning patterns out of a book.

I enjoy seeing the twinkle and excitement in ones eye when they have worked so hard and finally acheived it! The best joys of being a teacher is growing with someone. I learn just as much as they do in a lesson. I am constantly exposed to genres of music I normally wouldnt listen to or study.

I have been teaching for the past 10 years and have taught all age groups. No matter how young, or old, someone can always learn new things. Whether they are a total beginner or an experieced player, there is always more to learn!

I started teaching in College to earn some extra money and fell in love with it.

I have been playing guitar for 20 years. I studied Classical Guitar Performance and Music at Douglas College in Vancouver, BC as well as finished my studies in Audio Engineering.

I have lived in Nashville the past 8 years where I have played with various artists, have taught for Guitar Center as well as was their lessons coordinator for a period of time as well.

My wife and I are the duo, MidWest Coast, as well as run our own studio in Ashland City, just outside of Nashville. We have been played on Lighting 100, 100.1 FM as well as been on NSAI's writers to watch. You can also find us playing around town as well as the southeast.

About the lesson

The first step is to get to know their interests. Why they decided to learn an instrument? What type of music do they listen to? What are their goals with this instrument? Is it to play as a hobby, professionally? Join a band?

These are all crucial questions when designing a lesson plan. From there I put together a lesson plan and away we go!

All ages, as young as 4 to as old as 64.

Many different styles as well ranging from classical, blues, rock, jazz, country, folk, singer songwriter.

Make sure to spend a little time to just get to know eachother. It is very difficult to stay engaged in a lesson with someone who you dont connect wtih.

Being able to play live music again now that things have started to open back up!
