About Drake

With my mom being a native from Switzerland, I grew up in a home where Swiss-German was taught as our first language. Being vastly different from high-german, I decided to spend a few years in Switzerland, Austria, and Germany to dedicate those years to mastering high-German. I have always attained a special enjoyment for helping people master the German language, and since I had to undergo the challenge of learning it myself, I can help my students overcome obstacles that I, myself, have had to conquer. Not only am I a fluent German speaker, but I also have been the Utah Valley University German tutor for the past two years and have earned a minor in German from UVU. I can very proficiently teach reading, writing, and speaking to anyone of any age or difficulty. I will help my students achieve their goals by showing them the beautiful simplicity of the German language, and by dedicating all my efforts towards helping them not only learn the language, but cherish and enjoy it too.

I began as I was studying german in Switzerland, and found reugees who were seeking to learn the language so they could integrate into society. I started my own German teaching group with groups of 5-25 people. With time, I was joined by a few of my friends in my efforts to help others learn. When I returned to the University I began my tutoring, and from there I was able to become a part time adjunct professor at UVU. I have also done translation work for various companies in Utah County.

Having been rasied in a German-speaking home, I am fluent in reading, writing, and speech. At Utah Valley University, my skills were examined by the Language Department Chair, a German Professor, and I was hired as the German tutor for the University students, whose proficiency levels ranged from novice to expert. I have also taught German as an adjunct professor at UVU. I have received a Minor in German from UVU, and study the language often to improve my own understanding of how the language really works. I have also had the occasional opportunity to do translation work for various companies in Utah County.

About the lesson

I am happy to work with any students with any or no German speaking background. Just contact me via email and we will schedule a time to be introduced, discuss your goals, and make a plan to get you on the path to German excellence!

I have worked with students of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. Last year my clients ranged from age 16-65, and I enjoyed every lesson. I have worked with other native German speakers who have always known how to speak, read, and write, but wanted to understand why the language worked the way it did. If you want to learn German, I can work with you.

Look for someone who had to learn the language themself. Native speakers can be great tutors, but sometimes they lack the training to really udnerstand how the language works and how to teach it. If you can find a mixture of both, that would be ideal. Also, look for someone who has worked with people in your age and proficnecy group, and who is excited for you to apply thr language in your life, not just know it.
