About Sophie
I'm currently studying Digital Forensics at university which will hopefully lead me into my dream job. This is something I have been passionate about for 4-5 years thanks to my teachers. I currently help other students on my course out in one-to-one sessions when they are struggling. I am an avid gamer interested in everything from Mario Kart to Sea of Thieves to Call of Duty to League of Legends and everything in between. I also play flute, keyboard and violin each though flute has always been the one I have focused on most.
I have taught over 300 lessons via the MyTutor platform.

Tutoring Style:
I have been tutoring for around a year and I try my best to tailor each lesson to each student I take on. If a student struggles to be engaged within a lesson I will try and give them worksheets which are more visually appealing and give questions in a more interesting format. If a student is not engaged with the lesson or the subject at all I will try my best to tailor the lesson around their own interests (e.g. TV shows, video games etc). If a student requires more minimalistic lessons I am happy to tailor to this need/preference also. Any other requirements are also doable but should be mentioned before the first lesson. I aim to improve both confidence and understanding by figuring out the student needs to improve and targeting those areas. This builds over time and can help the student feel more confident within the classroom and during tutoring sessions.
Planning:
Before a lesson I tend to find appropriate resources from a number of sources such as Twinkl, maths tutor, PMT, online question banks, the official exam board websites (including Primary SATs for KS2 students and Edexcel, AQA etc for GCSE students as well as intermediate tests for those in-between). I often use materials I have already found created by others but occasionally I will edit them to fit a students needs if the material is slightly off of the topic we are covering, too high ability or too low ability. I will also sometimes make questions up on the spot if more questions are required to check understanding.
Structure:
I will introduce a topic through a number of examples (usually 2-5) and then suggest the student do some practice questions themselves which I will help with if necessary. All the lessons are scaffolded and get gradually harder as the time goes on. This means that the student can slowly build confidence with the topic before trying the more challenging questions. For higher qualifications I will also add exam questions into each topic to help prepare the student for their final exams.
