About Gregory
I am a doctoral student in History at the University of Maine. I hold two MA's, one in History (focusing on early eodern Scandinavian military history) and one in Medieval Icelandic Studies. I have been studying history at the university level since 2011, and am particularly well versed in medieval, early eodern, and modern Europe, and American history.
I have been teaching english online for a little over six months, and have given guest lectures and presentations in various levels of education.
I hold two MAs in history-related fields, and am currently a doctoral student in history.

Prior to our first session, I like to ask my students if they have any specific questions about the study of history, and what subfields of history they are interested in learning more about. If they are looking for help with AP courses, I also like to get information on the textbooks they are using, as well as where they are in the curriculum, to better shape the tutoring sessions to their needs.
I have worked with high school and university students.
The teaching of history, if done well, is much more than rote memorization of dates and names. A good teacher should encorage their students to think critically, search for nuance and subtelty in the recounting of historical events, and look for similarities and differences between the past and present.
As I am at the University of Maine, the recent bicentennial of Maine's statehood was an exciting historical event.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Ideally, students would begin a tutoring session by having a clear understanding of where they could use additional advice. If a student needs more general assistance with a subject, they should make an effort to make note of areas that they are having trouble with, so in later sessions any specific questions can be addressed.
