About Haiyang

Hi there! My name is Haiyang Wang. I am flute performer and teacher who enjoys sharing my love and knowledge of music through online teaching. I started playing the flute in 1999 and have been teaching since 2014.

I received my Master of Music degree in Flute Performance at Florida State University, where I also taught flute lessons and music classes as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. Prior to that, I taught at a number of public secondary schools as well as my private studio in Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area for 5 years. I help my students to prepare and advance in auditions and contests.

My teaching approaches are tailored to each individual student. I choose technical materials and repertoire according to what they need and like. I also encourage students to explore music from various eras and styles and sometimes supplement the teaching with reading, listening, and watching materials to make sure they have a comprehensive understanding of the playing and an enriched experience with music.

As a musician, I love sharing my appreciation of music and skills of flute playing. I devote my effort to bring out the musicality within each players. As a teacher, I value each student's uniqueness and work collaboratively with them in setting goals and plans while they progress at their own pace. I hope my students to be confident and resilient. I celebrate their success and acknowledge their accomplishments. I encourage them to keep trying and offer new ideas when they have setbacks. I look forward to meeting and growing with my students together as musicians.

About the lesson

I have worked with students ranging from 8 to 65 years of age. Some of my students are undergraduate music majors, some are secondary school students, and a few are adult learners. I have also worked with a student with hearing disabilities.

Every person has their unique experience and understanding in their area of expertise, therefore each teacher has their own approaches. I would suggest taking a lesson with the teachers you are interested in first and see if you like their approaches. It is important to have a teacher whose methods make sense to you and suits your learning style. It is also important to find a teacher that makes you feel comfortable and confident because you will learn more and improve faster when you feel that way.
