I had the absolute pleasure to learn and grown from Barbara's instruction from first grade through my senior year of high school, culminating in my participation with the 2014 NYSSMA All-State Wind Ensemble. Her lifetime of experience speaks for itself, and she extended to me an understanding of the nuance that lies in balancing technical prowess and emotional expression in flute performance. Barbara mentored me for many years, and by the time I graduated high school she was like family.

Barbara was always honest and realistic with me; she prepared me for all the challenges I was ready for, and she let me know when I wasn't ready to move forward. I'm beyond grateful for Barbara's hand in my growing up. She encouraged me never to quit playing, even though I did not end up pursuing performance in college. Now on breaks in the semester I return home and pick up my flute like nothing ever changed.

Yes, she taught me how to master the fundamentals of flute performance, but what was most valuable from her instruction is how she developed my passion and dedication to hard work. I consider myself so lucky to have been able to learn from her for so many years. She is simply the best of the best.
