About Sarah

I jumped in feet first at the Mountainside Baroque Academy when I was in my early 20s! At the Academy, I teach private flute and recorder lessons, a beginner recorder class, Baroque dance class, and coached small ensembles as well as the Baroque Orchestra. I am now a seasoned private lessons teacher with about 25 students.

As mentioned in my bio, I have two performance degrees from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Until the pandemic hit, I was performing with groups around Baltimore, Cleveland, Ann Arbor, and Cumberland. I teach at a summer music festival for Middle and Highschoolers in Maryland called Mountainside Baroque Academy, which is where I began my teaching career, and discovered my love for working with inspired kids. I currently teach music lessons full time.

About the lesson

My first goal (always) is to make sure that my student is feeling relaxed, open, and inspired. I'll ask my new student about their favorite music, what they like about their instrument, and what they hope to learn in our lessons.

I teach with a case-by-case mindset, so some students may have many requests and questions that I allow them to essentially plan their own lessons. Other students simply want to become better musicians without any specific wants or needs, in which case I will be ready to provide all of the resources and techniques to get them where they need to go.

I've taught students between ~5-85 years old. They've ranged from absolute beginners to young professionals.

There is no need for any sort of preparation before we chat, but consider some of the following questions:

Are there any music projects you dream of completing (remember, this is your DREAM so it can be as big or small as you want!)? I may be able to help with some of your musical goals!
