About Laura
Writing is more than a communication tool. It is how we find our own voice using the world of words, layers of thought and patterns of prose. For more than 25 years, I have worked as a writer, editor and marketing professional tasked with making concepts, issues and even energy bars appealing and relatable to my audiences. Yet my most rewarding projects have beeen helping my kids, nieces and neighbors find their own voices and craft essays, hypotheses, media stories, reports and presentations for high school and college assignments. I share how to build a message effectively, simplify grammar rules, edit for clarity, and tell a story with purpose. I would love to help you find a writing style and voice that you can use for today's assignments and tomorrow's adventures.

-ask the student to describe a challenge or specific problem with a current or past writing experience
-use that problem or example to walk through options, edits or messaging goals to determine how the student best responds to feedback and input, and to assess the student's knowledge, comfort level and approach to writing and writing structures.
-after the quick assessment, step back with student to determine goal/intent of the assignment, and determine what tools (reading assignments, data, etc.) are available, required, and recognized by the student.
-ask to student to think about the original problem or challenge within the context of the goal and isolate the biggest pain points. And start there.

Think if you want an editor or someone who will teach you to write
Working with a team of graduate students who needed to write and present a biomedical case study and hypothesis on the case study. The students had a wide degree of writing backgrounds, competency with the English language and understanding of how sentence structure and language tense can influence how data is presented accurately. It was great to see how quickly they learned and began to edit themselves once they took the time to build the message/communication goal deliberately, yet with their own twists and insights.
