About Aja

I become an Educator to create opportunities for global learning, global travel, and global citizenship. My vision is that students leave my classroom with a broader perspective, able to investigate the world, ask questions, and act based on what they learned. To achieve this vision, my sessions have a global framework and are project-based, building skills in critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving.

I enjoy being present for my student's "firsts."

The first time they learn a grammar rule that makes sense. The first time they read a controversial novel. The first time they learn about a historical event. Or the first time they learn about a cultural tradition.

I have a rich professional background. For the past ten years, I have worked with young people in:

About the lesson

First, I typically communicate with the parent and develop a scope of work. The scope of work will describe the dates, times, meeting places, and goals of tutoring. I will also try learn more about the student and their interests. The first session always includes an intake where the student and I get to know each other.

I have worked with Elementary, Middle, and High School students with varied skills.

I have experience working with English Learners, students with learning challenges, and "at-risk" youth.

I would tell a student that it is important that they know themselves before choosing a teacher. For example, if they know their learning style, it would better inform their teacher choices.

I recently fishing with my father and found the experience to be extremely relaxing and fun!
