About Michael
Initially I've always been interested in history. I realize that a very young age that we needed to be taught the truth. My mother and I had long discussions when I entered University as to what I should do my future. She eventually won the discussion and I ended up receiving a degree in engineering. When I retired, I had the chance to follow my lifelong desire to teach. I went to China to get my TEFL/TESOL teaching certification. I'd be able to receive my certification as well as experience a foreign culture (appeasing I am interesting history). I love teaching! I love seeing the gratification of my students faces and they've learned something new for the very first time and understand it. To me, it's the greatest reward there is in life.
I have five years background teaching pre-kindergarten to students preparing to take their IELTS/TOEFL tests in China.

In the beginning we may not know what a student knows or does not know. They may only have the capability to point or make gestures and possibly have some rudimentary language skills.
It's important to know what the new student "can do" when he/she comes. That's the starting point...base-line data. Gotta love data! Begin measuring (assessing) the new student on the progress he/she makes from this point. ***We assess what they can do from this point forward, not what they can't do.*** Use WIDA for a set of “can do” descriptors. These “can do” descriptors can give us a basis for which to start our student and assess their level.
I've worked with all levels of students. The youngest being one year nine months old to 54 year old math teachers.
Honestly?I'd say look for a teacher that you feel comfortable with. You cannot learn if you're not comfortable in a learning environment. At the same time, the teacher should keep focused on your objectives and needs.
Many students come in to a private training center at the request of their parents. This is a result of the need to be number one then just culture. However, when I accidentally wrote my name in English script, I found that many of my students very very interested and curious about the writing. I'm very fond of this memory simply because these were primary grade students. They were 7 to 9 years old and they wanted to learn how to write English. They all begin writing their names and on their papers in English script. I'm very proud of that!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Personally, I believe we are all unique individuals. As such, we have different questions that come only from our hearts. I cannot pretend to know what my students concerns are because I do not live within my student's mind. The only question that I believe falls under this category would be student/teacher relationship. Teacher and student must draw the line and that is the only question that needs to be thought about before discussing with the teacher.
