About Wendy

I have a Master of Science degree in Elementary General Education and Special Education - Grades 1-6. I have been in the education field for 10 years. I have taught 3 year olds all the way up to 9 year olds. I believe every child is capable of learning given the right set of tools.

The best part about teaching is seeing your students finally getting the concept that is being taught - even if it's a slight improvement. Every child wants to be praised and I celebrate even the smallest accomplishments because it is so important for their self-esteem.

Teaching was always a passion of mine - specifially early childhood because I view early childhood years as being the most fundamental years. In my opinion it sets the tone for the rest of the education journey - whether a child likes or hates school/certain subjects, how confident he/she is, and how strong his/her foundational skills are.

I have a dual NYS teaching certfication, one in general education and one in special education for grades 1-6.

I like to conduct a baseline assessment for myself to see what area the child needs help in. I also like to ask parents some questions regarding their child in terms of academic levels in school to get a better picture of the child. Building a good rapport is also important, I want the child to be comfortable with me so I would ask the child some questions as well.

I work in a public school setting so I do work with a very diverse group of students.

The dynamic between teacher and student is very important. Not every teacher will be the right fit for your child. When looking to hire a teacher, be sure to ask plenty of questions to get to know the teacher to see if they will be a good fit for your child.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What skills do they want to work on/improve? Will you do the extra work and put in the extra effort? What goals do you have for yourself?
