About Laura

I genuinely enjoy teaching people how to write effectively and put their argument together in the strongest way. I also love helping people explore different viewpoints in literature. I have been teaching in the Mount Vernon City School District for 5 years as a 9-10 English teacher, as well as teaching an elective all about exploring your personal learning style and adapting your course work to be the most effective for you.

I love having an opportunity to work one on one with someone to really give them a deeper understanding of their own learning style and how to tailor what the curriculum gives them so that they can get the most out of it.

I began teaching after completing my Masters' degree, but had known teaching was my aim since high school. I had a fantastic English department in my high school that inspired me to want to spread knowledge through literautre and writing.

I have a BA in Secondary English Educaiton, English Literature, and Theatre Education as well as a MA in Literacy. I have taught in private and public schools for the past 7 years, and have received tenure in my current school.

About the lesson

I usually like to spend the first day asking what their goals, strengths, and weaknesses are and work to develop a better understanding of their personal learning style. From there we explore what their assignments are and how they track the information from class to develop the best ways for them to retain the information from lessons and work through the questions they have.

I have worked with special education, general education, honors, and ENL from grades 4-12.
