About Hillary
I am a certified teacher with a Masters in Teaching degree. I specialize in elementary and special education. I have been teaching for 2.5 years and have worked with ages 6-21. I have taught math, reading, writing, science, social studies, art, and ESL. I have experience working with students who have mild learning disabilties to more severe disabilities that impact their learning. I am trained in differentiating subject materials to meet the needs of all my students.
I began as a substitute teacher while going through graduate school.
I have a Masters in Teaching degree with a dual certification in elementary and special educaiton. I also have a TESOL certification for teaching English as a second/other language.

When working with a new student, I begin by simply getting to know more about them. I ask about their likes and dislikes, hobbies and interests, family, sports, etc. Building rapport with a new student is critical. After rapport has been established, I then get an idea of their baseline academic level by either having them share work samples with me or asking them to complete simple tasks to gaugue their current level.
Ages 5-21. All abilities. I worked for 2 years in a school for students with moderate to severe diabilties. I completed my student teaching in an inclusive second grade classroom where I worked both with typically developing children and students with mild disabilties. I have also worked with kindergarten and first grade students with behavioral disabilties.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should decide on their goals. This will give students a reason for wanting to increase their skills and learning, and thus they will be motivated to improve. Therefore, every student must ask himself/herself "What do I want to accomplish and why do I want to accomplish that?".
