About Leslie
I believe you will find me to be open, warm, encouraging, confidence-building and thorough in our tutoring sessions. I always make sure we keep your goals the priority and make clear plans for success in each session.
Two of my favorite things are English and people! I love helping students be academically successful, but more importantly, I love helping students see that that success doesn't have to identify them. There is freedom to not be perfect as we learn and grow together toward our goals. I am also currently earning my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy, which means I will work with people of all ages and backgrounds, and I love that part of my job!
I have had a passion for teaching since I was very young, but was quite reserved in exercising this desire until college. Through many leadership positions at university, tutoring sessions, and my years of public teaching and training post-graduate, I have found a true love for helping others gain autonomy and confidence in the world of English.
I have my Bachelor's degree in English and Psychology from Texas Tech University. During my time there, I tutored other college students and was the Chief Executive Officer of The Odyssey Newspaper. I am also a published poet. My post-graduate experience includes training thousands of prospective teachers through alternative certification in Texas, as well as writing curriculum, public speaking, copy editing, proofreading, and more. Furthermore, I am currently earning my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy, where I am gaining strong interpersonal, rapport-building skills and methods for client flourishing. I believe you will find me to be an exceptionally kind, patient, and effective tutor for nearly any area of English you wish to further develop in.

It is very important to me that the students I work with feel comfortable and confident in our working relationship. I always extend my first session with a new student to a full hour (at no additional cost) to get to know them, share about myself, and make sure we are a good fit for tutoring. If the student does not believe it is the right fit, I will provide a full and easy refund. Once we've become acquainted, we will discuss the student's academic goals and make a plan to terminate tutoring with that goal in mind. The object in my services is that, one day, you won't need me! :)
I have primarily worked with students ages 14-25. However, I have worked with younger and older, as well. I have experience working with national and international students and do offer tutoring services for both men and women. I have also worked with 504 students, including but not limited to, dyslexia, cognitive processing disorder, ADHD, and mild to moderate autism.
As a student, you should always look for a teacher who has experience in the area you are hoping to develop. You also want to find a teacher who you feel will both encourage and stretch you. Growing pains mean you are standing a little taller!
This past weekend I went for a run by the lake and was overjoyed by the "almost summer" warm breeze, green-ing trees, and budding flowers. Oh, how we need some warmth in this world right now!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
As a student, some questions you might think through before talking to a teacher about your needs are:
1. Has this question been covered before? (Double check by looking back on past discussions, glancing over textbook readings, or browsing your personal lecture notes).
2. What is the need for the need? In other words, what academic tool is missing from your "toolbox" in order to complete the assignment on your own? Share that need with your teacher and let them help you gain a solid foundation!
