About Annie

Discover ways to integrate various art forms, such as music, photography, and dance, into your community.

Annie Deering (they & she pronouns) is a performer, published author, and student based in New York and Vermont. She focuses primarily on the integration of arts programs into community spaces such as geriatric care facilities, schools, and accessible-living facilities, but also enjoys arts education. In addition to community work, Annie also creates professionally. Annie works in arts marketing and community outreach, and is also a college counselor for first-year students.

Annie studies music, theatre arts, and accessibility at Middlebury College. They also speak a fair bit of French! Annie will graduate from Middlebury College in May of 2022, and plans to then attend graduate school for a masters in art therapy.

I began in performance, and when I shifted my studies to activism, I began taking more of a teaching role volunteering with elderly facilities, elementary schools, college students, etc.

I have nearly 10 years of formal performance training, in addition to interpersonal training in crisis management, restorative practices, and mediation.

About the lesson

I like to get to know each student before working with them. Accessibility is really important to me, so I want to help each individual create an art style that is their own.

Elementary through adult!

Listen to your gut, and meet with a teacher that challenges you in a way that is respectful and kind. If you feel uncomfortable in a way that is negative rather than you pushing yourself, find another teacher. You'll likely learn from many teachers, and more than one learning style may work for you!

I recently started a photography project to capture the faces and passions of the people in my community. Each "section" of the online exhibit has two portraits and the person's first name, pronoun(s), and something that brings them joy in their community. The site is free and accessible to anyone with internet access, and it makes me smile to see the growing number of faces there.
