About Meaghan

Welcome to the Yeates Academy of Irish Dance! We are the longest running Irish Dance school in Oregon, with instructors Sinead Yeates and Meaghan Feeback certified through the Irish Dancing Commission (CLRG) in Dublin, Ireland, the North American Irish Dance Teachers Association (IDTANA) and the Western US Region (WUSR). Dancers with the Yeates Academy have the opportunity to dance recreationaly, competitively, or as part of a performance troupe. Dancers choosing to become competitive can compete in both solo and team competitions at the local, regional, national and world level. All dancers can become members of the Molly Malone Irish Dancers, our performance troupe, for a chance to perform in shows year-round. Dancers begin with the 4 softshoe dances and then move into learning the hardshoe dances with a strong emphasis on traditional technique- proper carriage and arms, turnout and rhythm and timing. Our main location is in Portland, OR with branches in Salem, Lake Oswego, Vancouver, WA and Eureka, CA. Our troupe, the Molly Malone Irish Dancers, is available for performances year-round

Absolutely everything! I love that our dance form includes both solo and team dancing, soft and hardshoe, traditonal and modern choreography. I enjoy sharing my love of this form and hope to inspire my students to see it with the same passion

I knew from almost my very first lesson that teaching Irish dance was something I wanted to do when I grew up.

I began assisting in classes after I had been dancing for about 18 months (around age 12) and continued to assist all through my competitive career

I have been involved in Irish dancing for 20 years. For 15 years I competed in both solo and team dancing at the regional, national and world level, achieving top 5 placements at the regional level and top 25 placements at the national level. For 14 of those 15 years I was on a performance troupe and have performed all over the northwest at events and concerts.

After retiring from competition, I sat my TCRG exam and became certified through the Irish Dancing Commission (CLRG) in Dublin, Ireland. My certification includes a full background vetting that is redone every few years and also means that I work under a Child Protection Policy set by our governing body.

I have been actively teaching for the last 5 years and have instructed at workshops for City Dance Theater in Salem and the School of Oregon Ballet Theater in Portland and West Linn several times.

About the lesson

New students can start at any time of the year and will begin in softshoes, learning the first four basic softshoe dances. After that, students move into hardshoe.
The entire class warms up together and then is broken into groups to work on specific dances. Every dancer learns their dances at a different rate and are always split up so either the main instructor or their assistant has 2-3 dancers at a time. This allows for lots of one on one time and very specific personal feedback.

Students are welcome to come and observe a class before beginning.

We start students at age 5 and take them all the way through adult, and I have worked with every age in that range

Details

Tuition is $70/ month due by the 10th, with a $10 late fee incurred if paid after.

There is a one-time new student registration fee of $75 due with the first month's tuition
