About Shea-Ra

SHEARA NICHI

Dancer, Actress, Choreographer and Director

SheaRa Nichi, An accomplished dancer, actor, director and choreographer, she has been performing professionally since age eight. SheaRa Nichi studied professional theatre in New York City through the Circle in the Square School. She has traveled to Haiti, Europe and Brazil researching and learning all forms of African cultural dance. She continues to utilize her skill set as an artistic contractor working with theaters, schools, and universities as a performance art therapist, and demo lecturer. Recently, she choreographed the Lion King Jr for Cape Fear Regional Theater. SheaRa also continues her community service efforts by offering African dance classes for all, and fitness classes in Fort Bragg NC.

SheaRa Nichi has developed a new dance form called the Nichi Technique. The foundation of this technique is the combination of folkloric dance styles, their techniques and traditions with elongated movements. In honor of these traditional dances the Nichi technique was created. This technique is choreography draws on the folkloric traditions of the Congo, Haitian, Brazilian, and Cuban influences. The Nichi Technique was created out of the desire to contemporize the folkloric movements to speak directly to people of our times.

This is a progressive technique with it roots in communicating life through movement. She says "The foundation of my training experience in acting, and folkloric dance coupled with my travels to some of the above mentioned regions has contributed to a greater insight to these folkloric dance styles and the people in these communities whom which dance is a natural part of their culture." Organically, Modern dance is present in this technique as a way to broaden these traditional movements, which gives this techniques its unique attributes.

SheaRa would like to continue her travels,research and training in the cultural dance, and theater. Some of her most recent travels includes Oxford England to study Shakespeare under an Oxford/ Yale university program, London to work with RADA, Beijing, China, and Tokyo, Japan to get acquainted with the Asianic cultural for future cultural exchanges.

Dance lessons offered by Shea-Ra are tailored to each student's needs and level. Lessons can also be held online. Lessons are also available in Elizabethtown. The first lesson is free to define learning goals and methodology.
