About Shawntil

Partner dance changed my life in every way, and I feel it’s my calling to pay it forward. Before learning partner dance, I felt like a zombie. Working a job I loathed, antisocial and overweight, I felt totally disconnected from life. Social dancing brought me joy, better health, good friends, and something to be proud of! I had been a student for 3 years when I decided to go pro.

About the lesson

My teaching philosophy is that every student deserves a unique plan. I find joy in discovering each individual's learning style and dance desires. We collaborate on goal setting because having something to work toward increases productivity and speeds up progress. I believe in highly personalized lesson plans

In our first session together, you'll tell me what you want to get out of taking lessons. Then, we'll jump right in, and get moving! To wrap up, we'll make a few notes about what we've covered, a quick video for your reference, and I'll give you some tips on what and how to practice. We will also decide together what to work on for our next lesson. As we progress, we will learn new patterns, concepts, techniques, musicality, and social dance etiquette based on your evolving goals. And we'll have a whole lot of fun!!

I work with adults, ages 16 and up.

Couples, singles, and groups of any iteration are welcomed. You do not need to bring a partner. You can dance with me!

Special event and wedding preparation is a specialty of mine since my teaching style includes goal setting and progress tracking while still keeping it light and fun.

I make a practice of meeting people where they are. I will assess your current abilities and go from there, moving at a pace that is comfortable and fun while progressing as quickly as possible. I welcome all feedback and will often check in to ensure you are getting exactly what you want out of the process.

My favorite thing about teaching people to dance is helping them conquer their fears, trust in themselves, and shine their brightest. I love seeing people allow themselves to make mistakes without giving up! Learning can require a lot of patience, and I enjoy helping students refine and improve upon a concept until that lightbulb moment when it all comes together.
