About James

I got started teaching when I wanted to get back into dancing, after taking a break for other education, and couldn’t necessarily afford to take lessons. So I decided to teach instead.

Spent 4 years in college learning and competing as a student in ballroom dancing. After moving to Texas, I spent 8.5 years dancing, teaching, and being trained in Ballroom, Country, and Argentine Tango but some of the best mentors in the nation. Certified at the Bronze level in all Ballroom dances.

About the lesson

The first 5 minutes is used to sit down and get to know my student: why they want to dance, what they want to get out of lessons, who they are. Then we spend some time seeing where their abilities are, depending on what they want to learn. The majority of lesson is spent having fun and trying out a few new things, then we close with a recap of what was learned.

All age ranges from teens to elderly. Mostly country gold, couples, tango dancers, and single ladies (haaaay).

Always give something and/or someone a try. When choosing an instructor, it’s not about price, or even expertise. It’s about connection and having fun.

I have fond memories of dancing and teaching, but nothing recent.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
First off, why Dance? And what do they want to get out of lessons. If you don’t know what and why, it’s a waste of money. Teachers do what they do best....teach. So there has to be a goal figured out somewhere.

I love dancing with James! He is extremely patient with newbie dancers, and is able to clearly explain how to properly do whatever move he is teaching. Most importantly, though, James makes dancing FUN! I’ve never danced a bad dance with James (even when I mess up the moves)! I highly recommend taking lessons with him!

Details

My standard rate for lessons is $75 for an hour, with higher rates depending on the distance of travel. Group events is $125 for an hour, with $50 travel fee per round trip hour of driving.
