About Dave

Multimedia specialist, including film production, visual effects, post, sound and photography.

I'm also an animator, web designer and graphic artist.

I designed and taught entertainment media classes at UCSD and the art college, Platt College.

Was Supervising Editor at Film Roman (The Simpsons, Family Guy).

I love helping others achieve their goals. My combination of teaching background while still being a full time artist will help you reach your goals and make sure your knowledge is current with the industry.

I frst heard about a job teaching 3DS Max from my local paper (yes, it was that long ago). I was only 23 at the time and had just purchased the program. I grabbed every piece of material I could in order to learn and master the program in a week... and was hired!

I've been in entertainment media for over 20 years. My work has appeared on FOX, HBO, MTV, The WB, and in many films. As a freelancer, I'm used to work on a large range of projects, from monster effects to corporate training videos.

About the lesson

I first get an idea of how much they already know about the topic they want to learn.

Next, I find out what kind of projects they want to work on so I can make sure we cover the right processes.

Classes I have taught were mostly adults. As a supervisor, I also have trained employees at the jobs I've worked at. As a freelancer, I often get individuals who, after having done a project for them, want to learn how to do it on their own.

Especially for the more advanced topics, like how to do matchmoving, compositing and visual effects, it's very important to find someone who really knows their stuff (i.e. me!). There are many people out there who "think" they know how to do visual effects or work in After Effects, but it often turns out they don't have enough experience having really worked in a professional production with the tools, and it shows once you get beyond a few basic steps.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about actual projects you want to create. This will help the instructor fine-tune a course specifically for you.
