About Eric

I love teaching Guitar!

There is nothing more rewarding than watching students progress, step by step from beginners in guitar/music to achieving mastery.

I started playing the guitar at age 12. My older brother was taking lessons, and when I saw him play, I was hooked. After performing in a talent show, my school asked me to teach a guitar class. I was in 7th grade. It was tough being I barely knew how to play myself. Surprisingly, all my students learned to play, and I learned to teach. I've been teaching ever since.

I recieved my undergraduate degree in guitar performance from the University of Miami, Fl. and my Masters in guitar performance from the University of Denver, in Co. where I was a (TA)Teachers assistant.

I've taught as am adjunct professor at Florida International University for 8 years. Mater High school for 6 years. Also private lessons throughout my playing/teaching career.

I am extremely fortunate to have studied with some of the best guitar teachers, I have a clear understanding of guitar technique and musical mastery. How to proceed from point A to point B. Many guitar students have wholes in their playing and understanding.

I enjoy seeing growth in the students playing. It’s a simple process, once understood.

7th grade, after performing in a talent show, my school offered me a small non- paying position to teach other students that were interested in guitar.

Masters Degree Applied music M.A. University of Denver, Lamont School of Music. Emphasis in Classical guitar Performance, Pedagogy, and Music Theory. Awarded the Deans scholarship and Graduate Assistant Fellowship. Studied under Ricardo Iznaola.

Bachelors Degree. Degree in Applied Music B.A. University of Miami. Emphasis in Classical Guitar Performance, Ensemble and Music in Interpretation. Honor award for outstanding performer during Freshman and Senior years. Studied under Juan Mercadal.

About the lesson

I ask a lot of questions. Can you play anything now? What Type of music are you interested in?

After I understand the students wishes/needs, we begin.

Getting the fingers moving. right hand, left hand.

reading notes, counting, music theory, singing. etc.

all ages from 5 to 75 all types and backgrounds.

Look for a teacher that you have a good rapport with and you trust. Ask questions when you do not understand. Respect what the teacher advises you to do and do it.

I would then suggest that I teach them.

One of my high school students was struggling with counting and playing in the 5th position. We slowed it down quite a bit, and they were able to do it.

Eric Swanson is also very intuitive as to what the student's strengths and weaknesses are, and makes it a point to work on issues with a laser-like focus - until the issues are corrected. In all, any guitarist will improve ten fold under Mr. Swanson's instruction.
