About Robert

I have a few afternoon/evening/Skype spots for cello and classical bass students, as well as beginning or intermediate violinists and violists in my Montpelier studio at the Center for Arts and Learning. My teaching style is humorous and gentle, but focused and progress-oriented; I am comfortable with beginning to very advanced students, young and adult.

I love helping people learn to play beautifully, and to have fun and be challenged doing it.

I got started almost 30 years ago! I was a physics major who loved the cello, and I started teaching just a few people. Since then, I've taught hundreds of students!

I have studied with the principal or assistant principal cellists of the New York Philharmonic, the New York City Ballet, the New York City Opera, the American Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the San Francisco Symphony. I have taught lessons in music schools throughout the northeast. Check my website (concealed information) for more information.

About the lesson

I usually teach people weekly at a regularly scheduled time. I do, occasionally, do lessons on a less than every week basis as I have availability.

I've worked with students between 2 years old to 80 years+. I am comfortable with beginners up to professional players.

Try a few lessons with a teacher before you decide. I offer a free lesson to offer a look into my teaching style for prospective students.

I have a student who really, really struggled with a piece. They worked hard, I helped them break it down into manageable chunks, and they had a beautiful performance at my student recital. I was so proud, and so were they.

Details

I generally have a monthly tuition fee, depending upon the length of lessons. I also have an individual lesson fee for people who would rather have less frequent lessons.
