About Katharine

Looking to provide classical music lessons in an accessible online format! I have extensive Suzuki in cello books 1-10, as well as a Master's in cello performance. However, I don't strictly adhere to a suzuki curriculum unless that is the interest of the student; I love helping others master whatever songs or musical styles they wish to learn!

I started teaching private lessons in 2016 just before graduating with my bachelor's degree, and taught my first group classes the following year for a nonprofit in my hometown. I have been continuously teaching ever since!

I graduated with a Master's in cello performance from the University of Denver in 2020, as well as full certification in the Suzuki method for books 1-10. I also have 6 years of experience teaching in private and group instruction.

About the lesson

I like to spend the first several lessons learning about the student's personality, musical interests, past experience with music, and what sort of curriculum design would work best for them, as well as addressing fundamental technique and setup to ensure we start off with a strong foundation!

I teach all ages of students from 5+ and am willing to engage with a variety of interests and skill levels!

Learning any instrument is a journey that works best with patience! It's important to find ways into the work that make you feel engaged and passionate, but to also not forget the consistent, daily routines needed to advance in your technique.

I have been working with a current student on transcribing and arranging one of her parent's favorite songs for cello. While practicing this song she genuinely enjoys and knows well, she is also learning about music theory, creative techniques, and how to exercise more personal authority over choices such as bowings, articulation, and imitating vocal inflection on the instrument.

My rates are as follows:

$70 for an hour,

$55 for 45 minutes,

$35 for half an hour

I also provide the first trial lesson free when a new student enrolls for their first month!
