About Yasmin

I have a host of different career experiences, but have at this age found my niche and passion in TEFL. I started off as a teacher at local schools, teaching English as a first language (which is very different from teaching English as a foreign language) from grades 8 to 10. I was also the school's guidance counselor. I have an Honors degree in Psychology. I have also studied art therapy where I work with children and adults on emotional issues and challenges. I then worked as a Librarian in a Public Library, with breaks in between when I had my children. I then worked in Government as an Employment Skills Practitioner for 13 years. In 2014 I did my TEFL course and then taught at English language schools in Cape Town. Students requested private lessons one on one and after that it grew to such an extent that I gave up school, and was full-time 7 days a week from morning till night with private tuition. I didn't ever market myself - students recommended me to others. This was/is my real passion and I wouldn't want to do anything else. I find it extremely rewarding especially when I see how students progress and how their confidence in speaking grows. In 2019 I was invited to teach in Erbil, Kurdistan, which I thoroughly enjoyed -

About the lesson

My lessons are creative, innovative, and interactive - it's a 2-way process. I encourage speaking as much as possible as this makes English alive and boosts the students' confidence. I love questions - the more, the better - why? - it shows me that students are actively learning, and how they think and process information. This I use to design tailor-made lessons to suit each student's needs. I strive to make my lessons as real-life and relevant as possible, and also enjoyable and fun - so that learning English is not staid - it's alive and should be embraced! So I would, with the help of the student, set up role plays, and other real-life situations that they can relate to and find that it enriches their lives.

Yasmin is such an adorable, kind-hearted, supportive and helpful person. By knowing her personally, I am very certain that Yasmin will help anyone regardless of his/her religion and nationality with passion, thoughtfully and unconditionally. Her precious advice is practical and motivating. By following her caring advice, I improved my English as well as my experience. Despite having differences in age, culture, our respect toward one another has grown well. Since Yasmin is back in her country, we are still in daily contact and our big dream is to meet again and one day work together. She is still helping me with proofreading my articles and editing research papers as well as advising me on any problems I have. Yasmin is a responsible and independent individual. She is a dedicated and creative teacher.

After my first lesson with Yasmin I realised how highly professional she was with the right touch of creativity. She asked me the name of the company I was going to be working for and my job description. On our first meeting, we settled my goals for the next 3 months. I had classes twice a week for 2 hours. She prepared personalised lessons which met my needs for the upcoming job. The lessons were not standard or boring at all - it was very creative and lively. We did role plays and phone calls that I would have with a challenging client. So she taught me to be assertive but professional in my communication with clients. We did lots of vocabulary relevant to my job, and we worked on my German pronunciation. This was 3 years ago, and we are still in touch with each other and good friends. I am really grateful that Yasmin always believed in me and supported me all the way, as I was very scared of this new job in a foreign country. I highly recommend Yasmin as a teacher and even as a personal coach. :)
