About Melissa
I love to teach struggling students and watch their confidence grow as they develop their academic skills! I have volunteered with Project Read and have taught 3 adult learners of English as a Second Language. Also, I am a certified special education teacher with 26+ years of experience in U.S. public schools teaching students with dyslexia and other learning disabilities, ADHD, language disorders, or early childhood developmental delays. I work hard to ensure my students are making progress in developing targeted skills. I enjoy figuring out how to best meet their learning needs. I teach to help you reach your goals. For adults lessons can be answering the questions you have from your own study and developing conversational skills, helping you read newspapers, magazines, or books in English on topics you enjoy, or practicing writing in English. I have the most experience teaching students ages 5-12, so I try to incorporate some fun into all my lessons. Fun is different depending on the student, but it can include movement, art, games, and so forth. I try to intersperse fun practice activities in between activities that require more concentration. I'm skilled at assessing a student's needs and then planning instructional activities to build skills in those areas.
