About Maz
Hello! I’m Maziar, a dedicated Setar and Tar player and instructor with over 20 years of experience in Iranian classical music. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of studying with some of Iran’s most respected masters, including Behdad Babaei, Daryoush Talaei, and Masoud Shoari. This deep training has shaped my understanding and mastery of the art, which I am passionate about sharing with my students. I have taught at conservatories, universities, and privately, working with students of all ages and skill levels. My teaching style is patient, personalized, and rooted in tradition, yet open to creativity and individual expression. I believe learning music should be inspiring and fulfilling, and I strive to create a supportive environment where every student feels confident to grow. Whether you are just beginning or looking to advance your skills, I am committed to helping you connect deeply with this rich musical heritage and achieve your musical goals.

My teaching approach combines deep respect for the rich tradition of Iranian classical music with a focus on creativity and personal expression. I emphasize mastering classical techniques, developing strong listening skills, and interpreting the Radif repertoire authentically, while encouraging each student to find their unique musical voice. Lessons are personalized to suit all levels—from complete beginners to advanced players aiming to refine their style and understanding. Typical lesson length is 60 minutes, but I am flexible to accommodate different needs. With over 20 years of experience studying under renowned masters such as Behdad Babaei, Daryoush Talaei, and Masoud Shoari, I bring a wealth of knowledge and passion to every session. I have taught in conservatories, universities, and private settings, and I enjoy guiding students of all ages through this beautiful musical tradition. Whether you want to start learning the Setar or Tar, or deepen your expertise, I tailor each lesson to your goals, ensuring a meaningful and rewarding learning journey.
