About Haley
Hi! My name is Haley, and I am a doctoral student in School Psychology with extensive training and experience working with children and adolescents in educational and clinical settings. Throughout my graduate training, I have worked with students across a wide range of ages, abilities, learning styles, and academic needs.
My background in school psychology gives me a unique perspective as a tutor. I have graduate-level training in child development, learning, academic achievement, psychology, and evidence-based interventions. I understand that when a student struggles academically, the solution is not always simply more practice. Sometimes a concept needs to be explained differently, broken into smaller steps, connected to something meaningful, or approached in a way that better fits how that particular student learns.
I strive to create a tutoring environment that is patient, encouraging, structured, and free of judgment. I want students to feel comfortable telling me when they do not understand something, asking questions, and making mistakes. Building confidence and independence is just as important to me as improving academic skills.
I am especially passionate about working with children and adolescents and helping them recognize their strengths while developing skills in areas that may be more challenging. Families can expect me to be dependable, prepared, professional, and genuinely invested in helping each student make meaningful progress.
Whether a student needs additional academic support, help developing stronger study and organizational skills, or wants to strengthen their understanding of psychology, I will meet them where they are and tailor our sessions to their individual goals.

My approach to tutoring is individualized, supportive, and focused on helping students truly understand what they are learning rather than simply memorizing information. As a doctoral student in School Psychology, I have extensive training and experience working with children and adolescents with a wide range of learning styles, academic strengths, and areas of need.
I begin by getting to know each student and identifying what they already understand, where they are struggling, and how they learn best. From there, I break challenging concepts into manageable steps, model strategies, practice them together, and gradually encouragethe student to complete tasks more independently. I incorporate visuals, examples, repetition, guided practice, and real-word connections when appropriate. I also believe that confidence is an important part of learning, so I strive to create an encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.
A typical session may begin with a brief review of previous materials or current schoolwork, followed by direct instruction and guided practice in the student's target area. We then work toward independent practice to make sure the student can apply the skill on their own. I adjust the structure and pace of each session based on the student's needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.
What sets me apart is my background in school psychology and my experience working directly with children and adolescents in educational and clinical settings. My training has given me a strong understanding of learning, development, attention, motivation, and individual differences. This allows me to look beyond whether an answer is simply right or wrong and help determine where a student is feeling stuck and what strategies may help the material make more sense.
I primarily work with elementary, middle, and high school students who need support with reading, writing, academic skills, study strategies, organization, or general homework support. I also offer psychology-related tutoring for high school and undergraduate students. My goal is for students to leave our sessions not only understanding the material better, but also feeling more capable and confident as learners.
