About Alanna

Hello! If you are looking for a kind and patient tutor, I have extensive tutoring experience in a wide variety of subjects. My experience with teaching started off with a role as a teacher in the children's ministry at my church and I have taught and mentored students ever since. I have helped students write essays, complete projects, and learn difficult scientific concepts all in a safe and fun environment. My experience as a longtime mentor and tutor allows me to work with a wide variety of students with ease.

I am a passionate scientist! I aspire to be a molecular Neuroscientist and have completed over five years of tedious research at institutions such as the University of Chicago, Tulane University, and the University of New Mexico. I received both my Master's and my Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience.

I have a natural inclination towards English and Writing, likely because my mom worked as a print editor while I was growing up. I scored well on the English and Reading sections on the ACT (34 and 36 respectively). I also serve on the editorial board for the academic journal at my university.

About the lesson

I tutor a wide variety of students (elementary school through third year college). My teaching methodology involves getting to know the student's strengths and weaknesses so I can best assist them. My current and former students know my favorite word: practice! If a student is having trouble understanding a concept, I will provide the student with practice exercises that approach the concept in a number of different ways.

If the student needs a paper edited, time outside of the session that I spend reading, fact-checking, or editing the paper will be billed. A one page paper will likely take me 20 minutes to edit. An in-depth research paper of 10 pages might take me 2 hours to edit. Please reach out to me if you have any questions about this policy :)
