About Evan
I am a piano tutor with over 9 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Piano in Music Education. Teaching piano has always been my way of sharing the joy and creativity music brings into life. I love helping students discover their potential by setting meaningful milestone goals, whether it’s preparing for their first recital, composing their own song, or finally mastering a favourite piece. Each of these achievements builds confidence and makes learning deeply rewarding. My approach is rooted in gentle pacing, ensuring that students feel comfortable as they grow in skill and understanding. I know that every learner is unique, so I tailor lessons to match their pace, interests, and aspirations. Progress in my lessons is never rushed, yet it always feels purposeful and motivating. I aim to make each session joyful, encouraging curiosity and a sense of accomplishment. I believe piano lessons should feel like a creative journey rather than a strict routine. My piano teaching approach focuses on helping students develop musical fluency from day one. I believe music should feel natural, so I emphasise hands-on playing early in the journey. My lessons combine finger independence exercises with practical applications, making it easier for students to play smoothly and with confidence. I also prioritise reading fluency, helping students quickly recognise notes, chords, and patterns so they can approach any piece with ease. Real-time rhythm training is a key part of my sessions, allowing students to internalise timing and play with steady, expressive flow. I often include duet playing, which builds listening skills, coordination, and a deeper sense of musical collaboration. Whether a student wants to play popular music for personal enjoyment or develop strong foundational skills for performing in a worship setting, I create lessons that support their unique goals. I adapt my teaching to each learner’s style and pace, making the process engaging and stress-free. We work on building strong technique while encouraging creativity and expression at every stage. My approach blends structured practice with the freedom to explore different musical styles. This helps students stay motivated and develop a personal connection to their music. I also provide clear guidance for practising effectively at home, ensuring steady progress between lessons. Over time, my students learn to play with confidence, independence, and artistry. My goal is to help them not only master the piano but also truly enjoy the process of making music.
