About Louis

I’m an experienced music tutor and professional media composer who has taught piano, music theory and composition since 2023. Alongside teaching, I’m completing an MA in Composition for Film and Television at the University of Bristol, supported by the Snowdon Trust Master’s Scholarship. I also hold a BA (Hons) in Songwriting and have continued my own development as a pianist through individual tuition and ensemble performance. My professional creative work spans film, theatre and video games, which allows me to bring composition, songwriting and music production into lessons for students who want to explore beyond traditional piano tuition. I have prepared students for ABRSM examinations and RNCM Junior programmes, while also teaching complete beginners and adults learning purely for enjoyment. I adapt my teaching to the individual rather than expecting every student to progress through the same method or repertoire. Above all, I want students to develop the skills to become confident, independent musicians while enjoying the process of learning.

About the lesson

I offer personalised piano lessons for children and adults, from complete beginners to developing players looking to build their confidence, technique and musical understanding. Every student learns differently, so lessons are shaped around your goals, musical interests and preferred way of learning. Whether you want to play for enjoyment, develop your music-reading and theory skills, work towards graded exams or explore composition and songwriting, we can build lessons around what motivates you. I combine practical piano playing with music theory so that students understand the music they are performing rather than simply learning which notes to play. For creative students, I can also incorporate composition, improvisation and music production into lessons. I have experience teaching children and adults with a range of abilities and learning needs, including students with dyslexia, students with English as an additional language and adult learners adapting their playing following injury. My aim is to create an encouraging environment where students can progress at their own pace while developing independence, confidence and a genuine enjoyment of music.
