About Doniell
My philosophy on teaching is what I call "The Three P's of Piano": Practice, Patience, Perseverance. I encourage all students to expose themselves to a wide variety of music, and learn from every experience from Ancient and Baroque, to Modern, Rock and Roll, Jazz, Pop, and whatever else the heart desires!
I instill confidence in my students, encourage them, act as a friend and guide rather than a strict teacher, and leave room for conversation so that every experience is pleasant and meaningful.

I teach most students from a method series appropriate for their skill level and/or age level unless students are in standard repertoire. Lessons almost always involve the following: practice piece, performance piece, techinical skills piece, and a theory assignment. Often we will incorporate conversation, games and flashcards, history, and personal preferences.
I have a B.A. in the Fine Arts from the University of Maryland University College, and a minor in history and philosophy. I have played piano since I was 2 years old, took formal lessons from 8-18, studied music exclusively for 3 years at Washington State University, and have performed in many types of events/venues such as: 1999 pre-show for Katja Skanavi at the Pantages Theater in Tacoma, WA, 1995 University of Washington Art show, WSU symphonic band, WSU Wind Symphony, WSU pep band, WSU Marching band, back-up pianist at 2 churches, Praise and Worship Team, Musical Theater, Musicfest Northwest 2017-2023, and more.
I have a rare bone disease that limits my ability to play as effectively as I once could - so I emphasize hand health, care, protection, and prevetion.
Adults and Youth aged Kindergarten and up are welcome to study with me.
