About Zoey
I am a jazz piano tutor with 7 years of teaching experience and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance. My focus is on guiding students toward advanced studies at programs like Berklee and Juilliard. I believe that excellent jazz playing comes from a combination of technical mastery, theoretical understanding, and artistic exploration. My teaching style blends these elements in a way that encourages both discipline and creativity. Students in my studio work on tone production, touch, technique, voicing, harmonic awareness, improvisation skills, and ear training. I also incorporate transcription and stylistic study to help them develop a deeper connection with jazz traditions. Over the years, I have helped students strengthen their improvisational confidence and prepare highly competitive audition sets. I take care to tailor lessons to each student’s background and future goals, whether they are pursuing a conservatory education or striving to improve their artistry for personal growth. I strive to create an environment where students feel supported, inspired, and motivated to push their musical boundaries. Ultimately, my mission is to help each pianist expand their creative voice while building the technical foundation necessary for high-level jazz performance.
